All-new Giant Anthem 29 Range

Giant Anthem XC race bike added three new editions for their 2018 Anthem 29 lineup. The new additions are lighter smoother and more stable in technical terrain. The frame features optimized 29er XC geometry and the next generation Maestro Suspension technology. With these new technology you will be able to climb quicker, descend faster, and do it all with absolute confidence and control.



The Anthem Advanced Pro 29 is equipped with all-new trunnion mount shock, which produces a lower leverage ratio for better pedaling and braking efficiency. It has Sram’s Eagle 1×12 drivetrain, Factory Fox Float 32 fork and remote controlled Float rear shock, and Giant’s carbon XCR0 wheels. The frame weighs only 125g, it's their lightest full-suspension frame.


The Anthem Advanced 29 features updated Maestro rear suspension and new 29er geometry for added speed and efficiency. It has 29-inch wheels, 90mm of rear suspension travel, and 100mm up front. It is equipped with 1×11 Shimano SLX drivetrain, a RockShox Sid with a remote and Monarch RT3 rear shock. Similar to the Pro, the XCR1 wheels also have Giant’s DBL technology, however it has a slightly heavier build.


The Anthem 29 is built with reengineered ALUXX SL aluminum frameset that features 90mm of rear suspension travel and 100mm up front. It has the Maestro’s stiff and lightweight carbon rocker. It also comes with the new Sram GX Eagle 1×12 drivetrain with Stylo crank, Performance Fox Flot 32 fork with remote and Float rear shock, along with the XCR1 wheels.

Glow in the Dark Bikes, Cheaper Alternative

Glow in the dark bicycles are really helpful if you drive on the road at night. Motorists will have easier time to see you in the dark. In my previous post, I mentioned about Mission Bicycle Company's Lumen Glow in the Dark bike, yes their bikes are stunning, beautiful, and work of art but most of us can't afford $799 for a bike. How to Keep your Shimano Ball Bearing Hubs in Shape

Here is another maintenance tip from Global Cycling Network. It's good to make sure that your bike's ball bearing hub is in working condition and a regular overhaul is very helpful.

If you have a Shimano wheels, just follow the steps in the video to service your wheels since all Shimano hubs run on cup and cone bearings. Perform this once or twice a year for better results.

Here are the tools that you will need for this job:

Cone spanners (13 and 17mm spanners for the hub)
Degreaser to clean the bearings and races
Grease
A tool to get the bearings out
A container to keep the bearings in whilst you clean the hub

Be careful not to put degreaser in the rear hub, you don't like to degrease the freehub. Do not over tighten the cones when rebuilding the hub this will increase friction if it is overtightened.

Inmates Use Bikes to Generate Electricity

Here is an interesting story... Inmates in a Brazilian prison uses special stationary bike to generate electricity. What a splendid idea, prisons here in the US should follow this one.

The country’s Santa Rita do Sapucaí prison has offered inmates a reduction in their sentences – albeit a light one – if they use their legs to charge batteries using special bikes.

City judge José Henrique Mallmann got the idea for his battery-charging bikes from other prisons that offer prisoners incentives for riding bikes, including Phoenix, Ariz.'s Tent City Jail that requires female inmates to ride a bike while watching television.

For every 16 hours a Brazilian prisoner pedals, he can reduce his sentence by one day.

The batteries the inmates charge while pedaling are taken every night into the city center, where they keep citizens out of the dark by illuminating street lamps. The program has become popular among inmates as it alleviates boredom and keeps them in shape.

One inmate even said he has so far lost "about four pounds."

The prison will soon add eight more bikes to the original two due to the program’s popularity. The ten bikes would generate enough power to lighten a city block, so if the city wants to be fully prison-powered it will need a lot more inmates saddling up.

The Arizona model, which influenced the Brazilian program, was started back in 2010 by controversial Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Named “Pedal Vision,” the Maricopa County sheriff, known for his tough stance toward undocumented immigrants, let female inmates pedal stationary bikes with one hour on the bike equaling one hour of television.

The TV’s power was generated from pedaling the bikes.
