Cyclist Hit by A Barrier During a Race

Argentinian Cyclist Eduardo Sepulveda was knocked unconscious, after being hit by a barrier blown into his path by strong winds. It happened when he was around 125 meters to the finish line. The freak accident broke his wrist and caused other minor injuries, he'll be out for 3 months.

This is the 2nd major crash for Sepulveda in just 5 months. He broke his fibia at the Coppa Agostoni last September. The 24-year-old Fortuneo-Vital Concept rider expects to be able to return for the Tour de France later this year.

Video: Motorcycle Rider Flips in Air After Being Hit by SUV

Yeah, I know this is not a cycling news but it's worth it since the accident was shocking. It happened in Baguio City, Philippines. A dash cam from a vehicle caught an SUV which is overtaking them, then almost immediately a motorcycle, pop up in front of the SUV. It was a head on collision that caused the motorcycle flips in the air.

The video was posted on YouTube on February 15, 2016 and the poster wrote that the incident happened at the Marcos Highway Flyover. The video’s time-stamp shows the date at February 13, 2016 and the time starting from 9:49.

The SUV overtook the other vehicles on the right lane, and used the left lane that is for vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.

According to local news, the driver of the motorcycle luckily survive the ordeal with broken bones and concussion.

South African cyclist Jeanne Nell died in a Freak Accident

   
Sad news for South Africa Cyclist. South African track cyclist Jeanne Nell died after a crash. He was seeking to qualify for this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow when the crash happened.

South Africa's Olympic committee said that Jeanne Nell who was a national sprint, time trial and Keirin champion, died after crashing during a keirin race at a velodrome in Bellville near Cape Town on Tuesday.

He participate at the UCI Track World Cup in 2013 South Africa his cycling coach described him as "one of the best sprinters South Africa has ever had."

Former Napster Executive Killed In Cycling Accident Hit by a Police Car

Milton Everett Olin Jr. former executive of Napster died because of a tragic accident on Sunday after he was hit by a police car while he was biking.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department said that Everett, 65 was cycling in the bike lane when he was hit by the unidentified deputy. The policeman was driving in the same direction that Everett was cycling in when he hit him  on Mulholland Highway. He was hit and ended up on the windshield shatterring the glass of the patrol car.

Deaf Man cycling for charity hit by a semi-truck

ABC News reports that Jacob Landis from Maryland has been riding his bike to all 30 Major League Baseball's stadium this summer for charity. He is raising money for children with hearing loss who are otherwise unable to afford a special implant. On Saturday night, he was stuck by a tractor trailer.

"Yesterday, with less than four miles to go to the hotel, I was struck by a tractor trailer's mirror," said Landis in a statement on Sunday. "I don't remember anything that happened, until I woke up at the hospital."

A witness said that Jacob was hit by the mirror of a semi in rural Florida. The truck failed to stop and investigators believe the driver may not have even known about the accident. Landis suffered a severe concussion, a broken nose, two small cheekbone fractures and a chipped tooth. His cousin has accompanied him on the trip.

Landis was transported to Florida Hospital Heartland in Sebring by ambulance.

The 24-year-old Landis has covered more than 10,000 miles riding his bike since April 3 and has already visited 29 of the 30 MLB stadiums. Landis been advised not to ride his bike following the accident, but he still plans on attending his final scheduled game Tuesday night, when the Phillies visit the Marlins.

"I just want to thank everyone for their kind words through my Facebook account and special thanks to all of my supporters who made this ride possible," added Landis.

Landis was born with normal hearing but was deaf by age 10. He received a special implant that allowed his hearing to be fully functional. His goal was to raise $1 million with the summer-long bike ride.

San Francisco Cyclist Guilty for Manslaughter

I thought I've heard it all, check out this bizaare news. A Cyclist from San Francisco named Christopher Bucchere pleaded guilty to felony vehicular manslaughter for striking and killing a 71-year-old man last year with his bike. He will avoid jail time.

San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon said that the conviction is the first of its kind in the nation involving a cyclist. Christopher Bucchere is 37 years old and once part of the Stanford University's cycling team. He will be sentenced to 1,000 hours of community service and three years’ probation.

“With the conditions of this plea, the defendant will be held accountable for the tragic death of Sutchi Hui and will have an opportunity for redemption,” said Gascon. “We hope this case continues to serve as a reminder that blatant disregard of the traffic laws can have dire consequences.”

Gascon said that the crash was a result of the cyclist’s “need for speed” while attempting to beat his own record and bragging about it.

Evidence presented against Bucchere showed that he was going 32 miles an hour in a 25 mile an hour zone and ran three red lights before striking and killing Hui, who was in a pedestrian crosswalk on Market Street in San Francisco’s Castro district at 8 a.m. with his wife en route to a medical appointment. 

Olympic BMX cyclist dies in a vehicular accident

Kyle Bennett, 33 an Olympic BMX cyclist was killed in a vehicular accident in eastern Texas. He was a three-time BMX world champion and won an automatic spot the first U.S. BMX Olympic team in 2008.

USA Cycling CEO Steve Johnson in an statement said: “All of us at USA Cycling were deeply saddened to learn this morning of the tragic and untimely loss of Kyle Bennett,”

“Kyle was a pioneer in Olympic BMX and an inspiration to those of us that knew him. He will be sorely missed and we offer our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Bennett is survived by his fiance and a young daughter.

3-Year-Old Pinned Under Bus Rescued‎

A young girl pinned by a bus in China survived the accident with no serious injuries.

The 3-year-old girl was riding her bike on the sidewalk when the bus veered out of control, plowing into a garden to avoid a car and hit the child. The child was tossed in the air and ended up trapped under the bus.

Emergency crews struggled to free her.

The soil was so soft that the jack wouldn't stay in place, but crews managed to dig the girl out by hand.

Man crushed underneath cement truck

Oh, I hate news like this. A man died after he lost control of his bike in Manhattan and was run over by a cement truck. Poor biker, my deepest sympathy to his family & friends.
