Bike Washing Machine? Wash Your Clothes While Exercising!

Bike Washing Machine, bike

This would be fun! I would like to have one of these eco-friendly bike washing machine. It's like multi-tasking, imagine you're not only saving electricity bill you're also saving precious time. The students from Dalian Nationalities University in China who design this bike called this stationary bicycle    BiWa, or Bike Washing Machine, pretty clever huh! While you're kicking the pedals it will rotate the drum of the washing machine. It also generates electricity that helps power the monitor and charge the battery for future use. This bike will also save you a lot of money since you don't have go to the laundromat and it will also keep you fit.

Bike Washing Machine, bikeBike Washing Machine, bike

I hope they sell this soon they could also add USB slot to charge your phone while cycling.

This is really a good concept specially for those who live in cities with tight spaces. I hope they can design a machine with a decent load capacity.

 Bike Washing Machine, bike
I don't think this is in the market yet. If you can't wait you can design your own bike washing machine like this one:

Bike Washing Machine, bike

They called it the SpinCycle, it is a portable washing machine that attaches to almost any bicycle. It's not as flashy and modern looking as the BiWa but it sure is very practical. It was designed by Rich Hewitt, he came up with the idea while he was in Burundi. He has a lot of laundry and wants to make it easier. The bicycle is fully usable with a SpinCycle attached, and everything needed for washing clothes can be carried in the drum. So, unlike with the BiWa which is stationary, the SpinCycle you're not just having a good exercise, you're also washing your clothes and commuting! That's three task!!! When needed the device rotates into place and the drum detaches so it can be filled. The drum is fitted with a paddle that helps the washing process.

Exploding Bike Saddle To Thwart Bike Thieves

This is new cool but a little bit extreme way to stop bike thieves. A prankster named TwinzTV made a YouTube video of supposedly thieves stealing rigged bikes that have exploding saddle to stop these bike thieves. This is a nasty way to get back at these thieves. Sorry bike thieves, you won't be having kids from this point forward.

Medical Doctors in UAE Promotes the Benefits of Cycling

ABU DHABI, UAE -  On January 12 UAE will have their National’s second Cycle to Work day and to promote it, doctors reveal how cycling benefits your mind and body.

According to a reseach don by University of Sydney, people who ride a bike to their work are happier and have a better quality of life than those who drive, walk, or use public transportation.

Srividya Iyer, head of physiotherapy at Burjeel Hospital, said medical research supported the findings this findings:

“Cycling on a regular basis has many short-term and long-term health benefits such as preventing obesity, cardiovascular disease and, in some cases, Type 2 diabetes.”

“When you cycle, your level of stress hormones is reduced and this makes you less anxious.

“Cycling can be used to improve one’s strength as well as the fitness level of the heart.”

Srividya Iyer is a cycle enthusiast and have been cycling for 2 years. Srividya also said that regular cycling promotes the formation of new synapses between nerve cells. The more new synapses are formed, the faster a person can think, react or solve problems. This also improve the memory.

Adam Griffin, a senior occupational therapist at Camali Clinic in Dubai Healthcare City, said cycling should be part of a weekly routine.

“In one case, this was a jump-start to a healthier, more active lifestyle, which resulted in greater focus in the classroom and improved communication and connection between parent and child.”

~ if more and more people cycle to work, people will become more healthy, it will lessen obesity, it will lessen pollution, it will lessen traffic, it will also help you save more money. The government should support cycling to work initiative.

Check out a video from Global Cycling Network about the important things that you should bring for a long bike ride so that you are prepared for every eventuality.

Since you can't bring everything with you during a bike ride due to limited space of your cycling jersey pockets and saddlebag. Also, if you bring unnecessary stuff it will just add additional load. The video will talk about what you should bring and where to put it.

Important things to bring are two inner tubes, a puncture repair kit, multi tool, mobile phone in a waterproof bag, raincape, a mini pump, your wallet, and an ID with your emergency contact number.

Anti-cyclist Facebook group

Anti-cyclist Facebook group, cycling, biking, bike, road safety

Oh there's a Facebook page dedicated to cyclists by cyclists haters in New Zealand. A cyclist has tagged them as "hate page." A member encouraging other drivers to mow down cyclists on the road is not hate? The Administrators of the FB page washed their hands and said that the comments and pictures are not their doing but by their members.

They said they want to promote safe riding and for cyclists to take more responsibility and follow the rules. They only want to  highlight the percentage of idiot cyclists creating a hazard on New Zealand roads.

Well looking at the pictures, I agree with some of them.

You can check out the page here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/NZ-Drivers-Against-Idiot-Cyclists/1533095093641369?fref=ts

How Set Up Your Bike like a Professional

Watch this video from the Guardian on tips from cycling professional on how to set your riding position on your bike for maximum efficiency and comfort. Essential tips from saddle height to cleat positioning.

To check the fit of your bike check:
1. Cleats and pedals - the ball of the foot should sit directly above the cleat spindle. Adjust the position of cleats with an Allen key. Badly positioned cleats can lead to over-extend leg and damage the achilles tendons. It also makes you use more energy , so efficiency will suffer.

On the pedal, use a low tension setting to start off with so it's easier to unclip.

Benefits of wearing cleats include:

a. Avoids muscle strain from incorrect foot position.
b. Makes you more efficient on the bike.
c. You can pedal in a circular motion, so it is easier to ride faster.

2. Saddle position and height- saddles can have their height adjusted, as well as their fore/aft position for a good fit. The correct knee angle helps avoid pain and discomfort on joints.

3. Handlebar setup - stems can be bought in different lengths and spacers added to get the right fit for you. Check the new stem matches the diameter of your fork, as these can vary.

Usually, men have longer arms and differently proportioned upper bodies. Distance between saddle and handlebars is longer on men's bikes.

Odd Halfbike

halfbike, onewheel bike, bike, one-wheel bike

halfbike, onewheel bike, bike, one-wheel bike

This bike is pretty interesting ang it's quite unusual. A newly invented odd halfbike that is said to make cycling in city streets easier and more practical eventhough you have to steer through a pole. The halfbike is steered using a central pole, it is equipped with a large wheel and two small stabiliser wheels.

The inventors said that the bike is easy to carry since it is small and you can combine both running and cycling.

Martin Angelov, the inventor of the halfbike said, "I started sketching different concepts for a simplified bike and soon reached a point where I needed to test these concepts in real life." "For some of the early prototypes I used old bicycles and parts I found at the attic. I was amazed how well people reacted to the idea and that made me want to keep up."

Based on what I've watched on the video, it seems hard to steer but really good for working-out. If we can just place a small motor that can assist pedaling, it will be great for daily commute since it is small and easy to carry.

Netherlands Cycling Paradise

Yup, Netherlands is a cycling paradise. They've got great infrastructure for cyclist that we can just dream of.
Houten is one of the best place for cyclists, and despite their advancement they still continue to improve it. They really study on how to make the street safer for everyone. In the Netherlands, they don't worry about cars families pedal along the road worry free. Most of the major street here have separate bike lanes, traffic lights for cyclists, and bike highways.

Segregated bike lanes have right of way when crossing side roads. You can see markings that instruct cars to give way to the cyclist coming in and out of the side road. They also have small protective kerbs and markers.

Netherlands is a dream come true for cyclists.

American River Parkway Rangers Will Expand Where people can Walk their Dogs

SACRAMENTO — CBS13 reports that Park rangers will propose to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to expand the area where people can walk their dogs in their new effort to protect the American River Parkway. But they also said that the strict guidlines on leashes will stay.

“I’ve never had a problem with my dogs, nor have I seen anyone else walking their dog have a problem with bicyclists or walkers,” Mark Gibbons said.

“There’s some secluded areas where I can let her off the leash,” Gibbons said.

Park rangers said that under the current law dogs are not allowed on the trails, since they present a public safety risk, cyclists may run over them causing accidents, or runners might get bitten.

“There have been times where dogs have been on the bike trail, and I’ve had to brake and swerve out of the way,” Daniel Mueller a cyclist said.

Worcester Woman’s Topless Bike Ride Raises Questions About Laws

Stacy Schnee,topless,naked,go topless,nudity,bike,nude

WORCESTER (CBS) — Stacy Schnee want to ride her bicycle topless and this has raised questions about the clarity of some state and local laws. She is a member of a group called “Topless Equality,” which advocates for women to be able to go topless, like men.

She used to live as a man. Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported that the 38-year-old mother of two had gender reassignment surgery in June 2011 and breast augmentation last year.

Before, Schnee has gone topless at her home but it seems no body cares and didn't pay her any attention, on Thursday however around 4 p.m., she decided to take a bike ride to Leicester.

The ride tied up traffic as people slowed down alongside Schnee.

“She is out there riding around, appearing to be topless and exposing herself for the shock value,” Leicester Police Chief James Hurley said.

At the time, Schnee was wearing “pasties” to cover a portion of her breasts.

Now, police and the district attorney’s office are trying to decide whether charges should be filed.

“Based upon a review of the law, it is unclear whether her partially covering herself up, puts her on the right side of the law,” Hurley said.

Massachusetts General Laws imply if only a small part of the breast is covered, it should be considered nudity. Other sections of the law state a breast is uncovered if there is no covering “below a point immediately above the top of the areolae.”

Other sections of the law mention the intent to shock is to be considered illegal as well.

Schnee says she doesn’t see any problems.

“When I was riding around, I was wearing pasties,” Schnee said. “The police talked to me for like 10 minutes and the whole time I was standing there waving at the people driving by.”

Topless Equality promotes equality for men and women when it comes to exposing their chest area.

The group says it is working toward changing laws but also clarifying the laws already on the books.

Bike Thief Caught on Camera at RideLondon cycle event

Bike Thief Caught on Camera, bike, cycle

A man riding a stolen bike down the Mall with other cyclists was caught on camera. The bike was  taken from a participant in the Prudential RideLondon cycle event and the thief was photographed by official event photographers while riding the stolen bike.

Photos of the man riding the £2,600 ($4,019 USD) green Trek Madone 4.9 down the road which links Buckingham Palace with Trafalgar Square have been released by London Metropolitan Police.

It was stolen before the cycle event started at 1pm on Saturday 3 August. Police said the bike was taken after thieves cut the lock.

The photo shows a man wearing a helmet while riding the bike which belongs to a 42-year-old man who was hoping to take part in the event.

Pc Charlotte Brierley, of Scotland Yard's Cycle Task Force, said: "The victim was about to take part in the FreeCycle event when his bicycle was stolen.

"The theft took place in the middle of a very busy event and we are urging people who were there who may have seen anything to come forward.

"As a result he could not take part in the event which he was looking forward to participating in."

The man is seen in the photographs wearing a blue cycle helmet, sunglasses, a blue and white striped T-shirt, beige/grey shorts and blue and white shoes.
