The World Naked Bike Ride 2016 Buffalo upstate New York July 9, 2016. It was a successful ride with an estimated 300 participants wearing just underwear or body paint and some are completely naked.

The ride was about promoting people-powered transportation "bring awareness to oil addiction and the negative impacts of car culture. Our naked bodies will symbolize the vulnerability of cyclists on the roads. Come "as bare as you dare" to the Buffalo Underwear/Naked Ride and help us promote our vision of a cleaner, safer, body-positive world."

The participants started at the corner of North and Franklin at 7 p.m., and the ride officially got underway at Days Park around 8 p.m.

Xiaomi Smart Electric Foldable Bicycle $450

 

Xiaomi is a Chinese tech company that is known for offering specs-heavy devices at affordable rates. They also have ventured to other products like drones, rice cookers, air purifiers, Blood pressure monitor, webcam, Action Camera like Go Pro, Smart Scale, and Water Purifier. Now, they have a new product that is non-mobile device: an electric folding smart bicycle.

The folding smart bicycle premiers as part of Xiaomi's Mi Ecosystem, the QiCycle bike will let get you up to 45 kilometers on a fully charged battery while slight pedaling, and comes complete with its own companion app.

With the help of the companion app, the rider will be able to monitor distance, speed, GPS location, and calories burned. It also features an IDbike Torque Measurement Method that employs sensors to optimize your energy output. This means that once you’ve set your desired speed, the bike will tell you how hard you need to pedal. This means that you don't need to overexert yourself when it is not needed, since you are riding an electric bike.

The Xiaomi QiCycle bike comes in a Shimano Nexus three-speed gear hub, has both front and rear lights built into the frame, and can easily be folded to half its size. It only weighs 14.5kg which is easy to carry on buses, trains etc.

Xiaomi partnered with iRiding, a Taiwanese startup for this product line. This is iRiding  second product. Their first bicycle was the $3000 Qicycle R1 that was released back in March.

The Mi Qicycle is quite cheaper at 2999 yuan ($450.) It has a 250W, 36V motor and 20 Panasonic lithium-ion batteries that will assist the rider in pedaling for about 45km (nearly 28 miles) on a single charge.

It also has different modes like Fitness, Power-Saving, Balanced and Extra Power.

The QiCycle bike is being crowdfunded inside Xiamoi’s Mi Home app, which means that it won’t be released until they reached the quota of number of buyers. Unfortunately, the Mi Qicycle is currently only available in China.

Road Bike Wheels

If you are looking for a new pair of wheels for your bike you should consider having one that is lighter to give you a lighter load specially when uphill. It should also improve aerodynamics so you can cut through air on flat roads.

If you bought an average priced bike online or at a store, it would be likely that the manufacturer paired the frame with lower quality wheels to make it more affordable. However, personally I wouldn't buy high-end wheels that cost more that the whole bike and will break my wallet. As long as the new pair of wheels offers lower weight, improved stiffness, and has a better aerodynamics I'm fine with it even-though it's not carbon.

Bristol and Cardiff World Naked Bike Ride 2016

The 2016 Bristol World Naked Bike Ride purpose is to make people aware of the dangers facing riders on the road. You can see participants who are completely naked, while there are people who are partially clothed. They paraded around the city on Saturday June 4.
It was a celebration of bikes and bodies, these cyclists wants safer roads and they are demonstrating against car culture and oil-dependency.

Around 250 cyclists took part in the 6.5-mile city center ride which was organized on the theme "as bare as you dare". Their starting point is at the Full Moon pub in the Stokes Croft area.

The ride was rerouted due to other protest, and coincided with some other planned city center marches that includes anti-immigration rally. Thank goodness the bike ride participants didn't encounter any trouble.

 

 

Also the 9th annual Cardiff World Naked Bike ride was held last Sunday June 5. About 150 cyclists took part in that event. The 8.5-mile ride set off from Sophia Gardens, and followed a route which included Cardiff Castle, North Road, the Civic Center, The Hayes, Wales Millennium Center, and then arriving back at Sophia Gardens.

US Olympic Cycling team Train Using Smart Glasses

The US Olympic Cycling team are training using smart glasses by Solos. With the help of the U.S. Cycling Team, Solos created augmented reality glasses that gives the cyclists vital data like speed, cadence (in revolutions per minute), heart rate during the ride, these information is important for athletes who wants to push themselves harder.

The glasses also flash on the lens display other information like calories, distance and elevation. The device brings biking experiences to a whole new level.

“The idea behind the smart eye-wear is to be able to give real-time feedback to the athlete via optical and display system mounted in front of the eye-wear, as well as through a stereo system of speakers, which will provide audio feedback to the user,” Ernesto Martinez, Solos’ Program Director and MIT PhD, had said at Las Vegas’ CES 2016. “In this case, the cyclist, as they’re performing, training, they’ll be able to hear and see real-time the data they’re generating”, he added.

Solos smart glasses has 6 hours battery life, and is made from military grade thermoplastic-polyamide nylon blend. Meaning, it's really durable and light weight. The device is designed with aerodynamics so it has minimal wind resistance.

It is equipped with Bluetooth and ANT+ sensors for operation in conjunction with other wearables. It can communicate with cycling apps like MapMyRide, Strava and TrainingPeaks.

Solos smart glasses launched a Kickstarter campaign to get the product to ordinary cyclists like me.

Bike Theft Security System That Goes Kaboom!

Bike chains and locks don't do much against bike thieves it just slows them down. Here's a bike security system that will scare them away. It's called Bike Mine, the world's loudest alarm and the ultimate deterrent against theft of your bicycle.

Bike Mine is a miniature bomb that you strap to your bike that will go off the second someone try to steal it. No, it will not blow up the thief together with your bike but it will give you a loud explosive sound (around 150 decibels) that will scare the crap out of the would-be thief. It uses the same kind of blanks that are commonly used in ceremonial salutes or to scare away nuisance birds.

Bristol's Naked Bike Ride 2016

The World Naked Bike Ride will take place again in Bristol this June dubbed as "harmless fun". Bristol will witness again naked people on their bikes for a cause as part of the World Naked Bike Ride.

The ride will take place on Saturday, June 4 from The Full Moon pub in Stokes Croft at 11am. The ride will probably start at noon and it will be 7 mile cycle around the city. Everyone is invited to the event.

Organizers said that the event is for "celebrating bikes in a fun, visible way and showing how exposed and vulnerable riders in Bristol feel. We want a less car and oil centric society.

Bristol was the European Green Capital in 2015 and yet air pollution causes over 120 deaths here each year. We must be more ambitious about escaping car culture's grip and freeing our streets for use by everybody.

Non-sexual public nudity is legal in England. We are not trying to cause alarm or distress. Feel free to look the other way."
