Fatalities in Cycling Accidents in NY on the Rise

cyclist, accidents

In New York there is a sudden spike in cycling accidents deaths, 20 cyclists died in 2014 from 12 deaths in 2013. This caused cycling advocates to question Mayor de Blasio's administration if they are doing enough to protect cyclist. They also want protected bike lanes to solve this problem, since this will give cyclist physical buffer. Motorists are against this since they will have less traffic lanes and will have fewer parking spaces.

Netherlands Cycling Paradise

Yup, Netherlands is a cycling paradise. They've got great infrastructure for cyclist that we can just dream of.
Houten is one of the best place for cyclists, and despite their advancement they still continue to improve it. They really study on how to make the street safer for everyone. In the Netherlands, they don't worry about cars families pedal along the road worry free. Most of the major street here have separate bike lanes, traffic lights for cyclists, and bike highways.

Segregated bike lanes have right of way when crossing side roads. You can see markings that instruct cars to give way to the cyclist coming in and out of the side road. They also have small protective kerbs and markers.

Netherlands is a dream come true for cyclists.

American River Parkway Rangers Will Expand Where people can Walk their Dogs

SACRAMENTO — CBS13 reports that Park rangers will propose to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to expand the area where people can walk their dogs in their new effort to protect the American River Parkway. But they also said that the strict guidlines on leashes will stay.

“I’ve never had a problem with my dogs, nor have I seen anyone else walking their dog have a problem with bicyclists or walkers,” Mark Gibbons said.

“There’s some secluded areas where I can let her off the leash,” Gibbons said.

Park rangers said that under the current law dogs are not allowed on the trails, since they present a public safety risk, cyclists may run over them causing accidents, or runners might get bitten.

“There have been times where dogs have been on the bike trail, and I’ve had to brake and swerve out of the way,” Daniel Mueller a cyclist said.
