Lead acid batteries are not bad, they just don’t have the same performance features of a lithium ion battery pack. Some e-bikes and kits offer the ability to upgrade to a lithium ion pack.  You could start out with a lead acid battery pack and later upgrade to a lithium ion pack if you find that you would like a lighter battery with a longer life span.
